The proposed Mitacs project mainly focuses on developing the application of the wire arc additive manufacturing technique as an alternative automated repair and restoration method for current manual processes implemented in Canadian industrial sectors. The main barrier toward the application of the wire arc additive manufacturing as a repair/restoration technique is the challenges in the resultant mechanical and electrochemical response of the restored component. Hence, the current project mainly concentrates on investigating the mechanical properties and electrochemical response of the restored stainless-steel components by implementing multi-scale microstructural characterization techniques. In order to gain a better understanding of the mechanical and electrochemical response of the restored component, the obtained results from the interfacial bonding of restored components will be compared with conventionally repaired/restored components. Furthermore, to enhance the mechanical properties, electrochemical response, and in-service life cycle of the restored components, post-fabrication heat treatment techniques will be implemented.
